A Mission of Service
August 10, 2015
On August 27, 2015 Sterling State Bank is honored to renew our support as a major sponsor for the Tee It Up for the Troops 9th annual golf benefit hosted at Willow Creek Golf Course in Rochester, MN. This event supports both the local and national chapters of Tee It Up for the Troops, a non-profit organization founded in Minnesota whose mission is to honor, respect, remember and support all those who have served in the armed forces for our great nation.
Lynn Clarey, Sterling State Bank's Vice President of Business Development, was part of a small, dedicated group of volunteers who launched the Rochester chapter of Tee It Up for the Troops over 9 years ago. This year the event will sponsor 34 service members representing all branches of the Armed Forces for a day of golf complete with a special ceremony commemorating their service.
"I never had the privilege to serve," says Lynn Clarey, "But both my father and my brother served in the military. The opportunity to honor their service, and the service of all our veterans, is what makes this event so meaningful."
One of the highlights of the annual Tee It Up for the Troops event is a special ceremony honoring the families of the fallen. Known as Gold Star Families, this event honors local families who have lost a child, spouse, sibling or parent in military service. This year the ceremony includes the laying of a wreath, bag pipes, taps, a fly-over and the presentation of roses at battle crosses honoring each fallen hero.
"We are deeply humbled to be able to contribute in a very small way to such a profound and wonderful cause," said Sterling State Bank President Justin McNeilus. "The credit for the remarkable success that Tee It Up for the Troops has enjoyed goes first to the brave men and women who volunteer to enlist in our armed forces, then to their families and finally to the dedicated volunteers who help make this event a success. I'm proud that Lynn Clarey exemplifies a spirit of service that we strive to foster and nurture here at Sterling State Bank."
In addition to serving as one of the founders and board members of the local Tee It Up for the Troops committee, Lynn Clarey also serves on the Midwest regional Tee It Up for the Troops Board of Directors. Half of the donations raised through silent & live auctions, raffle tickets, individual sponsorships and event sponsorships stay in the local community, directly helping soldiers, veterans and their families.

Past projects funded by Tee It Up for the Troops include Operation Hometown Gratitude, Operation Welcome Home at Ironwood Spring Christian Ranch and two service canines placed through the PawPADs organization.
"When you meet the families who have lost a child in the service of our country, you can't help but be moved," says Lynn Clarey. "It is an honor to support them through Tee It Up for the Troops and I'm also grateful to work for a bank that understands the value of non-profits and community service."
